Followers of The Night of Science’s social media channels want to be entertained in science events

We asked our followers in June on Twitter (now known as the X), Instagram and Facebook what kind of science events they would like to participate in.

The respondents said that they particularly like science lectures and guided tours in the city or museums. Debates, researcher meetings and film screenings were also well-liked event forms.

The followers of the Night of Science are interested in many fields of science. Almost 90% of the respondents mentioned more than one field of special interest. History, astronomy and social sciences (of which political research in particular was mentioned several times) received the most of the votes. Psychology, environmental topics and artificial intelligence also interested the followers of the Night of Science.

The respondents want to enjoy science and learn new things. More than 90% of the respondents stated that they participate in the science events to be entertained. More than 70% of the respondents participates because they want to learn new things. On Instagram and Twitter, the Followers of the Night of Science could vote whether it is more important for them to have fun or learn something new. Enjoyment won the votes squarely. Fortunately, you don't have to choose between these during the Night of Science!

The majority of survey respondents would preferably participate in the Night of Science on site. Respondents appreciated the possibility to participate in events online, but it was less often chosen as the primary form of participation.

The events of the Night of Science take place between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. According to the survey, there were enough people for each hour of the event, but the most of the respondents were interested in the events organized between 5 and 7 p.m.

The organizers of the Night of Science thank everyone who answered the survey. The survey was carried out on 5–11 June 2023 on Instagram and Twitter and with a separate online form.
