Functional Material Solutions – Towards Sustainable World
Plants are efficient in defending themselves against pests and pathogens. If these protective agents could be extracted from forest biomasses, many non-renewable protective agents harmful to the environment would remain unused. This is one of the goals at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). Luke’s scientists, teamed up with virologists from the University of Jyväskylä, have already identified forest-derived compounds that show highly promising antiviral and antibacterial properties to be used in different protective products. Luke’s scientists also develop mosquito-repellent coatings for textiles and edible products with functionalities.
In this online event Luke’s trail towards functional materials is shown by animations and films and researchers are available to chat.
