Mountains as sentinels of change
High-altitude mountain regions are among the most sensitive areas to global warming. This has a direct impact on the high-altitude cryosphere, including changes in biodiversity, glacier dynamics and snow resources. What happens in the mountains does not stay in the mountains: warming in mountain regions affects downstream societies and people who benefit from the goods and services provided by high altitude regions, first of all but not limited to, water. The lecture is held by researcher Elisa Palazzi and organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Helsinki.
